Yep. Your tiny ears aren't blocked or anything. I don't have a sob story like some of you. In fact, I'm quite fond of my foalhood days. My herd was a mix of donkeys, horses, and mules. There were more donkeys than anything, but I guess that still makes it a herd. Everyone was less strict and much more easy-going, however. We joked, we laughed, and we didn't really fight over who led the herd. Instead we went where the wind went - aka we never stayed in one place for too long. As a young mule you can imagine how great that was! I got to see a ton of wonderful sight!
Ma and Pa were one of those cute, lovey-dovey couples. Some stallions had flings or even multiple mares but my parents were committed to each other. Sometimes so committed it was gag worthy. Their matching curved ears did really make them look adorkable together, though! On occasion they'd have their arguments, though. Specifically on how to raise me. In the end I was taught donkey and horse traditions (both of my parents came from deeply cultured backgrounds). Confusing for a little babe, I know.
From a young age I was a gypsy soul. I loved exploring and venturing off on my own, so no one was really surprised when I wanted to take off on my own as soon as I hit three years of age. Yeah, I know. Males usually leave around two but since we traveled I was getting my fill. However, the herd started to feel like it was getting too slow for me. Ma cried when I left while Pa held back his tears (he couldn't fool me - he was totally about to cry).
I set off on my own for a while. It was fucking tough. Nothing had prepared me for any of this. I'm going to be real with you here: I was as scared as a newborn foal and wanted my ma more than anything. I probably wouldn't have survived if I hadn't ran into a group of young bachelors. All of them were horses, which led to many questions about my appearance, but they accepted me in.
Man, sometimes I wish I had been eaten out there than found by them.
Learning to live with a bunch of testosterone driven stallions was challenging. They were always like "hey, who is up for a spar?" Except it was never really a question! It was more of a "I'm about to charge at you so you better be up for a spar or you'll get your butt kicked"! I hate to admit it but some of it rubbed off on me. I never did appreciate a mare's butt until they enlightened me. How had I not noticed how wonderfully curvy they were until then?
They often talked about forming their own herds and, honestly, that didn't sound half bad. I knew how to survive on my own now. I wasn't the same trembling mule (don't you dare comment on that) that had started off on this adventure. Plus, I still wanted to see more. Thus I set forth to make my own legend and legacy~!
.. Except it didn't sound that corny to me in my head.
